Modern western culture does not value rites-of-passage. Children are grown through adolescents to adulthood almost by accident. Various figures in a child’s life impact their growth and development…their teachers, youth leaders, tutors, sports coaches and club leaders. This is a helpful contributor to growing up, but should not represent the wholesale “out-sourcing” of parenting for the child.

Guide modern parents towards intentional strategies to grow their own children. The first step is to spend one-to-one time with them. Tempus is an old latin word for time. Lets take your typical father for example….his children may appreciate that he has saved money, that he will pass on assets that he has saved, that he will hand over generational momentos that have been saved to represent the family legacy…..the children won’t however appreciate the time that was saved. Time with your children should be spent….not saved. There is no point saving up time-with-children for a rainy day. Spend your time…..don’t save it.
